Empowering Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) through Capacity-Building Initiatives

At the heart of resilient and healthy communities are empowered frontline health workers. Through targeted capacity-building programs, Kafugan Mining Incorporated continues to support initiatives that enhance local health service delivery and promote community well-being.

In line with this commitment, KMI supported the conduct of a Health Personnel Training for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) held on June 25–26, 2025, at the Adlay Multipurpose Hall in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. The activity was funded by KMI and implemented in partnership with the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Carrascal, underscoring a collaborative approach to strengthening primary healthcare at the barangay level.

The training aimed to enhance the foundational knowledge and practical competencies of frontline health workers in delivering basic health services. A total of thirty-three (33) BHWs participated in the program, including seventeen (17) from Barangay Adlay and sixteen (16) from Barangay Pantukan. Through structured learning sessions and knowledge-sharing activities, participants were equipped with essential health insights to better respond to the needs of their respective communities.

Anchored under KMI’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 4—Good Health and Well-being and Quality Education—the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to investing in human capital development. By empowering Barangay Health Workers with relevant knowledge and skills, KMI supports the delivery of accessible, responsive, and community-based health services.
