Leveraging Trip Tagging System: A Digital Approach to Efficient and Accurate Data Management on Ore Material Movement

The Trip Tagging System of Kafugan Mining Incorporated introduces a more objective, factual, and digital approach to material movement in mining, delivery and shipment, replacing existing manual processes with a faster, more efficient, and accountable system. It digitizes data collection across key operational stages, namely Extraction, Stockyard Receiving, Stockyard Delivery, and Causeway Receiving. This system replaces the traditional use of trip tickets, loading forms, and manual tallies by checkers, which often cause delays due to time-consuming recording and reconciliation and data processing (encoding).

By exchanging and scanning of QR-printed PVC cards with mining information between the involved parties, the system captures data in real time, reduces/eliminates human error, maintains objectivity, and eliminates lengthy manual data processing. It ensures accurate tracking of material movement from mine pit to stockyard to causeway with sufficient check and-balance, while reducing reliance on paper forms. Each scan creates a verifiable and auditable record that strengthens accountability and transparency across all stages of material handling.

The results of the implementation showed that the trip tagging system is an effective tool for monitoring hauling operations. It provides a structured process for tracking truck cycles and enhances accountability across contractors and employees. Despite its effectiveness, several gaps were identified, particularly in orientation, distribution, and tag collection, which caused minor delays and inefficiencies.

Overall, the system proved to be feasible and functional in a real mining environment. Its success, however, depends on continuous monitoring, regular reorientation of stakeholders, and the implementation of supportive measures that address operational challenges. By addressing these gaps, the trip tagging system can significantly contribute to achieving production ta

This innovation reflects KMI’s commitment to responsible mining, demonstrating how digital transformation can optimize production processes, enhance operational efficiency, and promote resource conservation by deferring use of paper. The Trip Tagging System represents a forward-looking model that can be replicated as a best practice in the mining sector.
